THE GREEK ISLAND COMPLEXES: Greece is an ancient island country. Here is a satelite image (north up) of continental Greece (the peninsula), surrounded by its two archipelaga the Ionian (on its left) and the Aegean (on its right) both with historic island complexes. Among hundreds of small or tiny rocky islands, those ones of a larger size like Zakynthos (Zante), Kefalonia, Ithaki, Lefkas and Kerkyra (Corfu) can easily be seen in the Ionian sea (left, from south to north). Peloponese is in the center, Crete is in south. In the Aegean sea, you can see, the Dodecanese complex (south east), Cyclades complex (center), Sporades complex (above center). Also, Limnos, Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Icaria, etc. can all be seen in a sequence along the eastern border of the Aegean sea. Part of Cyprus can also be seen, further down in the south east. For Local Information (Kefalonia & Ithaki) please visit the appropriate sections of the sub-menu on the left. |
